About Andrea Burnett

Andrea Burnett is a marketing and PR professional with more than fifteen years of public relations, advertising, and marketing management experience. In October 2000, Ms. Burnett launched her own PR and marketing firm, Andrea Burnett Public Relations.

Prior to launching ABPR, Andrea Burnett held the position of Director of Public Relations & Events at IDG Books Worldwide, Inc. (IDGB) a leading global knowledge company with a diverse portfolio of technology and consumer book brands, computer-based learning tools and Web sites. IDGB best-selling brands include For Dummies®, Cliffs Notes®, Frommer's®, Betty Crocker's®, Weight Watchers®, Webster's New World® and JK Lasser®.

Heading the IDGB PR department technology group since 1997, Andrea managed the successful launch of over 2000 books including the number one-selling computer book of all time, Windows 98 For Dummies®, which has sold over 2.5 million copies and is translated into 36 languages around the world.

In October of 1999, Andrea took over the Corporate Communications, Consumer Public Relations, Community Outreach, Trade Shows, and Events divisions of IDGB. In this role, she managed a staff of over twenty people -from trade show coordinators to Sr. PR managers. Each year, IDGB produced over 100 trade shows and events and participates in numerous community and philanthropic activities.

Ms. Burnett's background includes a wide variety of experiences in corporate communications -including facilitating IR dealings; product media relations; B2B and B2C product marketing; building brand awareness; special event and trade show management; Internet marketing strategy; co-branded marketing and promotions and sales merchandising. Andrea’s curatorial experience includes media-only press conferences, panel discussions, forums, and industry expert luncheons and events.

Prior to her tenure at IDGB, Andrea guided marketing and public relations for a division of Macmillan Publishing, a part of Pearson PLC, an international media company. Macmillan USA's imprints include Que, Sams, BradyGAMES, the Complete Idiots Guides and Macmillan Software. Collectively, they sell more than 14 million books worldwide each year. At Macmillan, Andrea oversaw domestic product publicity for imprints including Ziff-Davis Press and Lycos Press. She also managed corporate communications, author relations, special events and trade show efforts for these two imprints.

Prior to joining Macmillan Publishing, Andrea was the Director of Marketing and Events at Sega USA. In this role, she administered key product launches for games such as Virtua Fighter®, Daytona USA®, Virtua Cop®, Virtua Formula® (a 14-by-50 foot interactive racing game), and the motion-based simulators, AS1000® and R-360®. Andrea developed and oversaw the advertising campaigns and print media buying for all of Sega's arcade products. Additionally, she was involved in the strategic marketing plans for Sega's Arcade and Theme Park Development Division and directed publicity for the launch of the VirtuaLand super-arcade at the Luxor Hotel in Las Vegas.

In the capacity of Events Manager at Sega, her responsibilities included directing the design and execution of a new trade show booth for the arcade products division; managing Sega's participation in national trade shows and expos including E3 and Comdex and supervising international sales conferences and high-level distributor meetings nationwide.

Andrea Burnett began her career serving in various public relations and marketing positions in San Francisco. She holds a BFA in Fine Arts from San Francisco State University.
